This is one of the widest English parish churches, measuring 93 feet.
The Jacobean font with Maidstone Borough shield (granted in 1619) with Royal Arms less the English quartering. Remains of iron hinges for the cover can be seen. An older font, with Guy de Mone's shield, was removed to Sevenoaks.
Stone benches, sides and west end, once the only seating, hence the expression "the weakest go to the wall".

Astley and Knatchbull

Monuments at the west end. John Astley was Master of the Jewel Office in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
